Orca Conservation

There are different types of Orca whales. One grouping are called "Resident" Orcas. These are the Orcas that live in Washington's Puget sound. The Resident Orcas have complex social structures that resemble families. Each Orca family is known as a "pod".

In the Puget Sound, there are three families that are studied and tracked by scientists. The pods are known as:

  • J Pod
  • K Pod
  • L pod

Each pod is led by the older female whales. The resident Orca pods stay together for life!
